The first set of free printables have an image of a large rainbow. Underneath is the word rainbow written in bubble letters. One of the printables includes several water droplets to remind kids how rainbow patterns appear in the sky.

A fun way to practice letter sense along with coloring. Kids can use their imagination to pick out the colors or use a children's book about rainbows to find out the order of the colors of the rainbow.

Draw Your Own Rainbow Printables

These are probably my favorite because kids can draw their own rainbow pictures. Use finger paints or other coloring supplies to create a rainbow.

Helpful Tip: Print coloring pages off onto cardstock instead of regular printer paper to create a sturdier sheet for painting.

A great way for little kids and older children to practice drawing skills. Use ROY G. BIV, the colors of the rainbow or give them the freedom to create their own combination.

Draw a pretty scene at the end of the rainbow along with birds flying in the sky. It would be so much fun to see different kids interpretations of rainbows. A great way to cheer up a rainy day!

Create a Rainbow with a Prism

This coloring page is prefect to pair with a lesson about how rainbows are made. Kids can see that sunlight or white light can be divided into different colors. ROYGBIV written on the coloring page along with the word white light.

Did you know that you can not actually see the end of a rainbow? A rainbow is an optical illusion. If you move to a different location to view a rainbow, it will look like the rainbow has also moved locations.

Science Guides and Books about Weather

  • The Cloud Book by R. Hamblyn: Not only does this guide book show images with information about clouds, but it includes other weather related optical phenomena. This was always one of my student's favorite books.
  • Light Makes a Rainbow by S. Coan: this science reader is designed for ages 5-8 and provides photographs along with how a rainbow forms. Perfect introduction to rainbows and science specific vocabulary.
  • Rainbows by M. Hillman Rustad: Part of the Amazing Sights in the Sky Series for young readers ages 4-8. Information about how and why rainbows form.
